Blue Star Development Preview

A look at what is taking shape.

Blue Star Media Center and Blue Star Media Server are being developed together as a personal media experience. These current captures show working areas of both projects while the interface and underlying systems continue to evolve.

What is working today

Core workflows now connect personal accounts, authorized libraries, media discovery, playback planning, and progress tracking across desktop and mobile layouts.

Library Management

Library creation, storage roots, scanning and cataloging, with administrator library management.

Personal Accounts

Authenticated user accounts with individually authorized libraries.

Smart Playback

Playback planning across direct, remuxed, and transcoded paths, plus audio tracks and quality selection.

Search & Navigation

Global Media Center search across the libraries an account is authorized to access.

Watch Progress

Per-user watch progress with Resume Playback and Play from Beginning choices.

Desktop & Mobile

A custom player, fullscreen playback, and layouts designed for wider and smaller screens.

Smart playback, by the least invasive path

Playback planning selects the least invasive viable path based on the source file, client capabilities, selected audio track, and chosen quality.

Current testing includes H.264, HEVC/H.265, AAC, AC3, and multi-audio sources. Broader high-end and 4K handling remains in active development; this preview does not make a compatibility or performance promise.

What we are refining

Development remains focused on making the current foundation more consistent across files, playback paths, and client layouts.

Playback continuity

  • Continue Watching development and validation
  • Seeking across playback paths
  • Seeking after audio-track changes
  • Fullscreen-player refinement

Coverage and presentation

  • Regression testing and broader compatibility
  • High-end and 4K development
  • Revised crystalline compass and star branding

Filesystem first

Your files remain the source of truth.

Your actual media files are authoritative. Planned metadata enhancements—including richer titles, artwork, descriptions, years, genres, organization, and presentation—have not yet been implemented and will complement rather than replace that foundation.

What is next

A working direction for the next stages of development. This is not a release schedule, and no date or availability commitment is implied.
